Three Die In Fiery Collision East Of Aiken

Three people died in a head on crash about six miles east of Aiken on S C 302. Aiken County Coroner Sue Townsend said the remains were sent to Newberry for autopsies and the deaths raised the county toll to 13 for the year. The wreck occurred around 4 am near Shaw's Creek bridge at New Holland Road.

Lawmaker push fades as end of session nears

As the General Assembly closes on June 5, several high profile bills face death or dormancy. Aiken Electric Co-Op approves bylaws changes and reelects trustees

Aiken Electric Cooperative members approved three bylaws changes by large margins and reelected two incumbent trustees. Roy A. Steed Jr. won District 6 and Gloria Busch-Johnson kept an at large seat while P. Edward Swartz and O. DeWitt Livingston were unopposed. The meeting drew about 3,000 attendees with US Representative Lindsey Graham among speakers. The 10 year qualification rule for retirees and others drew 1,005 to 331 in favor, while other votes denied trustee seats to those with criminal penalties and expanded the patronage refund to include all cooperative revenues.
