Perea earns Outstanding Boy Scout Award in South Carolina
Dennis Perea, nominated by American Legion Post 212 in Aiken, won the 2017 South Carolina American Legion Outstanding Boy Scout Award. He will receive the award and scholarship at the Department Convention Awards Luncheon on June 2. Perea has long served St. John's and St. Gerard churches, led altar services, and rebuilt a church sign and info systems as his Eagle Scout project. He plans to study cybersecurity and computer science at the University of South Carolina.

Town hall to address Area 3 school crowd concerns
Aiken County Board of Education member Wesley Hightower will host a town hall at 6 p.m. Thursday at Midland Valley High School in Graniteville for Area 3 residents. The meeting follows a March session to gather input on growth pressures on Byrd Elementary and Midland Valley High, with five Area 3 schools at or above capacity and Midland Valley at 227 Mustang Drive.
