Aiken County Council advances a proposed tobacco ban to a final hearing on May 23. The plan allows smoking only in park parking lots, with one resident voicing support during the public hearing. Also approved was the 2006 2007 budget framework, including a $24 annual residential fee and a commercial property charge to fund a stormwater system costing over $1.6 million.
The Aiken County Public Library now operates as a 24 seven Wi Fi hotspot, extending into parking areas. The wireless service, funded in part by the Friends of the Library who donated 1000, frees laptop users from desktop time limits and lockers the network beyond closing hours.
