Second Annual Senior Spectacular at H C Weeks Center

Senate backs ballot on penny sales tax for property tax cut

The South Carolina Senate approved a measure to place a referendum on increasing the sales tax from 5 to 6 percent to fund a broad property tax relief plan. The plan would exempt up to 50 000 of a home’s value from taxes and eliminate the food tax, but faces weak odds with Gov Beasley and the House opposing.

Antley Seeks Funds for Appraisers in County Budget

Tax Assessor Pat Antley requests at least five new property appraisers as part of a Fiscal 1996 budget hearing.
