Moore cites stalemate in budget talk over public education

Senator Tommy Moore criticizes fellow Democrats for backing education cuts while voting for large school funding reductions. In South Carolina, Clearwater Democrats push a 7 percent sales tax to fund education and other departments, but the measure failed 15 to 30 in the Senate. Moore notes Republicans back a $45 million new-fees plan, claims a $73 to 7 million shortfall in education funding, and warns that per-student spending under the EFA remains $330 million below target. He projects long-term consequences and references a broader plan costing about $1.1 billion.
