Man Charged With Murder After Aiken Drinking Dispute
John Henry Sturgis 65 of 213 Hahn Village Aiken died at Aiken Community Hospital after a quarrel over a half pint of vodka leaving him stabbed in the chest and neck. Bobby Garvin 30 of 729 Washington Circle Aiken was arrested on murder charges. The incident began around 4 p.m. Thursday on the lawn of McDonald Priester 804 Pinecrest Ave in Aiken.

Accidents Claim Two In Aiken County Weekend
Two Aiken County residents died in traffic crashes this weekend. William Cato, 48, of North Augusta, died when his car overturned on Green Pond Road. Bonnie Grantham, 25, of Belvedere, died in a Ga 47 crash near I 20 in Appling. Denise Tankersley, the driver, remains in Doctors Hospital in Augusta in critical but stable condition.

Deputies Probe Two Thefts in Aiken County
The Aiken County Sheriff's Department investigates two thefts from last week. Aaron J. Brown’s home on Rt. 2 suffered a break in Friday with $620 in losses including a $500 Winchester rifle and $95 jewelry, along with about $250 in damage. In a separate case, garden gear valued over $1,300 was stolen from Charles Herrick’s Rt. 5 property, including a $950 riding mower and a $250 lawn mower.

Autopsy Finds Cause of Death in Aiken Motel Case
A Lexington County man died May 8 from an accidental prescription drug overdose. Julius B. Breeland Jr., 58, of Holland Avenue in Cayce, died from a lethal dose of pentobarbital found in a Holiday Inn room off S.C. 19 at I-20, according to Aiken County Coroner Sue Townsend.

Aiken Man Found Dead Near Graniteville
The body of Virgil Haygood aged 35 of Aiken was found by a passer-by in a car on S C 144 near Graniteville. Haygood had been dead about an hour and foul play is not suspected. The vehicle was smoking and the engine was running when authorities arrived.
