Riley questions high technology as SC employment hope

Gov. Dick Riley and Max Heller of the Development Board caution that high tech industries will not solve South Carolina's unemployment. Aiken Board of Education to Hold Called Meeting

The Aiken Board of Education will hold a called meeting tomorrow at 8 30 p m at South Aiken High School to hear a personnel appeal. The employee may request a private hearing per Superintendent Dr Robert Paskel.

County Considers Drainage and Public Works Projects

Aiken County Council plans to vote on more than 250000 dollars for drainage improvements and capital projects. Funding items include Dennis Creek and Bulls Branch Bridges 30000 dollars Rathwood Drainage 10000 dollars and Railroad Avenue drainage 20000 dollars with HUD funds, plus fairgrounds project up to 40000 dollars and Wise Hollow drainage basin 25000 dollars in cooperation with the City of Aiken. Additional road fund projects total 173000 dollars including a Seymour Drive Crestland subdivision project 50000 dollars and Rita and Fairview Avenue drainage efforts 10000 dollars along with Belvedere Ridge 40000 dollars Lawson Road 20000 dollars and Kalmia Hill Edisto Avenue study cost 11000 dollars. Aiken and North Augusta cooperation is required for several items with city cost shares. A Gloverville Public Safety substation and three roll-off trash stations are also planned totaling 116250 dollars. A metered gasoline system 38000 dollars and Banksia Library repairs 29800 dollars are included.

South Carolina merchants expect a change in 300 year old blue laws as the Senate weighs amendments to allow more than three grocery workers on Sundays.
