Work pays for ATC grads at Midland Valley ceremony

Regina Koon Shealy, 35, graduates after six years of night classes in office systems technology at Aiken Technical College. She balled through nerves as family arrived with roses, celebrating a hard won degree and a 4.0 final semester average. The ceremony marked the culmination of her effort to show her children education matters.

Stocks fall as inflation fears spark Dow decline

The Dow Jones average dropped nearly 194 points to 10,913.82 after the Labor Department reported a 0.7 percent April consumer price rise. Cancer Society Relay for Life Lights Aiken Track

The American Cancer Society sponsored a Friday night relay at Aiken High School starting at 7 p m. Survivors led the first lap before dinner. Alken native Carolyn Evans, in three month remission, and family joined as Frances Mack LaJoyce Johnson Christine DeLoach and Betty Thurmond cheered. Luminaries on the bleachers spelled HOPE as the event continued through the night despite dropping temperatures.
