Brooks hearing postponed in bond revocation case
The bond revocation hearing for Com pass Academy founder Jonathan Jay Brooks was moved to Monday at the Lexington County Courthouse after his attorney could not attend Tuesday. Victims from Aiken attended and were allowed to speak to avoid future travel. Circuit Judge Jack Early cited a legislative clash and a late executive privilege claim by Todd Rutherford, a state senator, as the reason for the delay.

No tax hikes in tentative budget for Aiken schools
The Aiken County Board of Education approved a no tax increase tentative 2014-15 budget totaling about 169 million for general operations and 17.6 million for new construction and maintenance. The board approved a 735,668 dollar step increase for non teachers and 175,000 to revise salary formulas for principals, while funding for ESOL teachers and a science curriculum specialist remained debated.

A 74 year old William Richardson of Aiken died after a canoe with two men overturned at Gem Lakes on Tuesday. Officers say the incident appears accidental. the second man was not injured as rescuers performed CPR and transported the victim to Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
