President Nixon's lawyers seek to persuade Judge Sirica that no further Watergate tapes should be released to the special prosecutor. Also, Sirica will address a panel's report about a 182 minute gap in a prior tape.
Washington AP reports the House Judiciary Committee plans further subpoenas for White House tapes. Presidential lawyer J Fred Buzhardt says Nixon would likely refuse to yield tapes even to a Supreme Court ruling or congressional demand.
Vice President Gerald R. Ford and Julie Nixon Eisenhower reaffirmed Nixon’s resolve to remain in office amid impeachment proceedings. Julie said Nixon would fight the Senate trial even if only one senator believed in him, arguing resignation would set a bad precedent. Ford urged Nixon to stay, contrasting the nation with the McGovern alternative in 1972.
Former AMPI lobbyist Bob A. Lilly says John B. Connally who led the IRS may have resolved a tax audit of the dairy cooperative. The notes quote Lilly as saying Connally, then Treasury secretary, could have aided the matter regarding illegal political donations and alleged kickbacks.
IBM loses bid for Supreme Court review over turning over about 700 documents to government antitrust lawyers. The court also refused Cravath, Swaine and Moore's request to intervene in the case and set a daily fine of 150000 dollars if IBM fails to comply.
The Aiken City Council meets at 8 p.m. in Council Chambers to consider a resolution on storm drainage encroachment across South Carolina Electric & Gas Company right of way and a request for an actuated traffic signal at Boardman and Whiskey Road. A second reading and public hearing will also occur on an ordinance to annex Heritage Square.

Hospital Corporation of America confirms purchase of a 60 acre tract near USCA in Aiken County for a 190 bed hospital. City and state officials discuss the Letter of Intent with a Certificate of Need decision expected after a meeting this week. A public referendum in November will decide private or public ownership of the facility.
Rep. C. Marshall Cain of Aiken announces he seeks re election to the State House for Part 85 District 150 under the new reapportionment plan. Cain, a 1968 House member and Ways and Means Committee member, helped author the Comprehensive plan.
Aiken County Board of Commissioners will meet to approve renting a 10 acre site eyed for a new courthouse. The plan covers land between Richland and Park Avenues on Highway 215 to be used for farming. The land, bought in 1971 for 115000, was tied to earlier courthouse site controversy over drainage and downtown distance.
Joseph Harris, Mead Hall headmaster, is named to a 10 member National Association of Episcopal Schools executive board. He has published more than 30 poems and stories and will have work featured in Notable American Poets. Notable gifts arrive as Helping Hands Inc. receives 1000 dollars from St Elizabeths Chapter St Thaddeus Episcopal Church aiding a home and garden tour and Happy Days Camp.
Chesley Gwinn assistant city manager says non residents face court action for using Aiken’s city landfill and in town trash containers. City workers may report offenders by name or license numbers to appear in court as littering and waste disposal costs rise with increased out of town usage. County awards note prior beautification honors in 1973.
An apparent professional hit man from New Orleans is said to target Pickens County Judge John Gentry. Deputy Grady Foster cited a reliable informer who warned of the threat Saturday night as the judge publicized it to deter the would be assassin. The informer allegedly described a plan to attack as the judge crossed from his law office to the courthouse.
