Training 800 emergency responders for WIPP links to SRS shipments
Emergency response instructors from the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant will train about 800 responders in the Atlanta area over the next month at the request of Georgia. The program, run by Westinghouse, covers roughly 2,240 shipments of transuranic waste traveling I-20 through six states to WIPP. Courses run May 19 to June 15 with 20 to 25 students per session, focusing on protecting people and the environment during a potential WIPP-related accident.
