It reviews a 2013 cost study, updates for inflation, and risk reassessment. MOX Facility Costs Questioned in Downblend Study

The study compares dissolving plutonium in SRS to MOX fuel option, with downblending to oxide and shipping to an underground repository. Aerospace assessed lifecycle costs amid a $345 million congressional appropriation, noting 1,700 workers on site and 65 percent completion after $4.4 billion spent. Critics, including CB&I and MOX supporters, dispute figures and foresee $3.3 billion more to finish main building and 5–9 years more to complete. Derrek Asberry reports for the Aiken Standard.
