Volvo may land first U.S. plant in Berkeley County South Carolina
Volvo Cars may pick a 2,800 acre Camp Hall site in Berkeley County between Summerville and Ridgeville for a new 500 million manufacturing plant employing up to 4,000 workers. The project, named Project Soter, would begin with about 2,000 jobs in phase one on a site near I-26 and the Port of Charleston, with a second phase possible. The environmental permit proposes 195 acres of wetlands filling and plans to mitigate by restoring 1,533 acres across four tracts in the Dean Swamp and Walnut Branch watersheds.
