A Senate intelligence committee staff report says the FBI conducted hundreds of break-ins, or surreptitious entries, to photograph or seize documents and install bugs. The acts are described as questionable legally and invasive to privacy, supporting recommendations in the panel’s final report.
Investigations into alleged abuses prompt the Senate to open debate on better watching the intelligence agencies. A proposed new intelligence committee may gain power, though its authority is uncertain as four Senate panels currently oversee the CIA and FBI. Former Illinois Governor Otto Kerner dies of lung cancer at 67 after a two year cancer fight. He resigned in 1968 to join the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and was later convicted in 1973 on income tax invasion conspiracy and mail fraud related to a race track stock scandal. He to be buried with honor at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
New tremors shook Udine and surrounding areas as criticism rose over government rescue delays. Rain worsened conditions for thousands homeless while workers cleared debris from Thursday’s quake. deaths remained at 815 with about 50 aftershocks reported.
Aiken police arrested Myrtis Crafton of 6062 Edgefield Ave for two counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and one count of possession of marijuana. The abuse victims, a seven year old boy and a nine year old girl, were treated and released from Aiken Community Hospital and placed in juvenile court custody. Bond set at $2000.

Franklin F. White of Aiken and Lonnie Barton of Warrenville filed for the District 85 House race to face Rep. Irene Rudnick and Mari on D. McGowan in the general election. White is a retired electrical engineer with St. Luke's Hospital in Cleveland. Barton is semi retired in electrical construction and long time Columbia contractor. GOP calls to reopen auditor filing, with Mike Harvey having withdrawn. new filing opens noon tomorrow and closes next Monday with a $240 fee.
