Cooling Towers Predicted For Savannah River Plant
A South Carolina official says the Savannah River Plant may need costly cooling towers to meet a new state water discharge permit. The permit could force shutdown of its three reactors until discharges meet standards, and the L-Reactor restart by October is deemed physically impossible. The state does not plan to request shutdowns and expects the plant to operate with an interim data-sharing agreement for a broad environmental analysis of radiation and hazardous waste practices.
