Fire tears through Riviera Road home injuring man

A blaze at 121 Riviera Road in the Laurel Wood subdivision left one man badly burned and three others in the home. After a neighbor heard a whooshing noise around 6 am, firefighters from three engines and about 35 personnel battled the fire. One man visiting from Florida was airlifted to Doctors Hospital in Augusta for treatment after initial stabilization at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Authorities have not released the victim’s name.

Puppy mill suspect surrenders to police in Aiken County

Marie Katherine Humes turned herself in at Aiken County Central Court on bond set at 100000 after failing to appear May 3 for warrants alleging abuse of dogs and neglect of a child. Assistant Solicitor Ben Moore said a preliminary hearing will be scheduled in about three weeks. two weeks of criminal court will delay proceedings. Animal Control had previously seized more than 150 dogs, with about 40 euthanized, and some animals relocated to new homes after public donations.
