Peach crop freeze to cost South Carolina millions in revenue
A late March freeze killed about 30 percent of South Carolina peaches, costing at least 27 million in revenue. Gov Haley and Agriculture Commissioner Hugh Weathers visited JW Yonce & Sons in Aiken where losses were 38 to 45 percent for 2014. Peach industry 2013 revenue was 49 million with 88 million annual economic impact. The Ridge area hosts most orchards with over 13 000 acres in Yonce’s region and 17 000 statewide.

Aiken Concert Band Opens Hopelands Summer Series
The Aiken Concert Band launched the Hopelands Summer Concert Series 40th season with The Prism Concert at Windham Performing Arts Stage. Small ensembles moved through the grounds before the full band joined, performing a mix from Jump Jive and Wail to Fanfare for the Common Man and Stars and Stripes Forever. Hundreds of residents attended on warm Monday evening and families relaxed on blankets as the colors of the prism came together for the finale.
