Wagener Salley Team Wins State Tractor Contest
Wagener Salley High School Tractor Operators earned first place in the State Finals in Columbia South Carolina. Team members Kenny Reynolds Derek Shealy Trevor West and Ethan Busbee topped other FFA teams. Coach Allen Williams led the Wagener Salley squad. Ethan Busbee ranked second high scorer state wide. Lynette Riddle won second place in Aiken Elementary Create A Critter kindergarten with Squeals on Wheels.

Public hearing on Comprehensive Plan scheduled May 19
A public hearing on the Comprehensive Plan will be held by the council at 7 p.m. on Monday May 19 at 200 Main St S. In May the SCV General Joe Wheeler Camp 1245 of Aiken honors Confederate President Jefferson Davis with a library display at the Aiken County Public Library Carolina Research Room.

Drowned man in canoe capsized on Lake Murray in Aiken County
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources reports 29 year old Nicholas Moore of Belvedere drowned Saturday after his canoe capsized on Lake Murray. A second man aboard was rescued. both were not wearing life jackets. Body found Saturday afternoon after authorities were alerted early morning.

Edgefield narcotics raids result in twelve arrests
Authorities say twelve people were arrested after narcotics raids conducted Friday by the Edgefield County Sheriff's Office and neighboring agencies. Warrants were served at three southern Edgefield locations with seizures including cocaine crack cocaine marijuana three firearms and about 1419 dollars. A Beech Island man faces domestic violence and kidnapping charges after an alleged assault on a woman. An infant was placed in protective custody due to an earlier home being deemed unsafe.

North Augusta officer fired over internal probe findings
North Augusta Public Safety released records showing former officer Edward H. Cordes II was terminated in March after refusing to cooperate with an internal investigation. There was no criminal charge. In Aiken, a Monday fire at Greenbriar Apartments on Nancy Lane displaced no one and caused bedroom damage while investigators probe the blaze. Over 25 responders were on scene. no injuries reported.
