Familiar shopper identified in armed store robbery case
Investigators arrested 51 year old George R. Mitchell of Sumter Street in Aiken on armed robbery charges after an employee identified him from surveillance as a frequent customer who held a clerk at gunpoint during a Friday 2:30 a.m. holdup at Greg's Gas Plus on Richland Avenue. The gunman fled toward Park Avenue with cash, working alone, police say.

The Rotary Club of Aiken granted $2,500 scholarships to six high school seniors including two twins Alanna and Beryl Walker of South Aiken. Recipients from Aiken High School are Jacques Johnson Quinn Hunt Toni Phillips and Matt Eisenstat. Johnson attends College of Charleston Hunt goes to Wofford Phillips to USC Aiken.
