Festival celebrates Scottish games in Aiken

The Aiken High land Games and Celtic Festival drew 19 clans including Davidson Fraser Macleod and Henderson..Dancing piping drumming and storytelling filled the day with border collie demos and Celtic music under favorable weather. Bruce Francis of St. Andrew's Society praised attendance and the festival's family atmosphere. The event, sanctioned by the SSAAA, honored William Kay Cummings Sr. as guest of honor.

Astronauts land safely back home after mission

In Kazakhstan a three crew Soyuz capsule returned two American astronauts Kenneth Bowersox and Donald Pettit and Russian Nikolai Budarin to Earth after the Columbia disaster grounded the shuttle fleet. The landing near Astana marked the first time NASA astronauts landed in a foreign spacecraft.

Rowland’s bid for Aiken County sheriff upended by voters

Jody Rowland, who announced in January a bid to become the Aiken County sheriff, expected a majority but lost in March. He reflects on 20 years preparing to manage the agency and how voters sought change. Rowland had served as interim sheriff since 1998 after Sellers, the longtime sheriff since 1992, left for Homeland Security.
