Young Marine Girot Dies After Draft Reclassification
George Girot, 22, had been 4-F for four years due to rheumatic heart and a crippled hand. Twelve days after a new 1-A physical, he died of a heart attack at Marine Corps boot camp after six days of service. Girot had volunteered to take the exam seeking a trade and to improve his chances for service. His mother Elizabeth Girot described his action as a push to be eligible.
