Langley Pond Dam repair cost tops 14.4 million in project update
The Langley Pond dam repair project shows total costs at 14.45 million with funding from a 6 million FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant, 219 million general obligation bonds, and Capital Project Sales Tax. The dam, built in the 1850s as an earth fen structure, received an ogee crest spillway in the 1950s. A 2014 leak prompted water level reductions while the 2018 groundbreaking began a multi‑phase fix. The project, designed by Schnabel Construction and overseen with Crowder Construction involvement, faced delays due to material removal and timber work before completion in 2026. Olympic athletes trained here. the lake hosted regattas until leaks were discovered. The finish line tower for rowing is now ready for use.

South Carolina to observe statewide prayer day May 3
Gov McMaster announced a statewide day of prayer for May 3 to pause, thank God, and console those affected by COVID-19. DHEC reported 160 new cases and 12 additional deaths, bringing SC totals to 6,258 cases and 256 deaths, with Aiken County over 360 cases and six deaths. Epidemiologist Linda Bell said the curve is leveling but infections remain widespread, and testing and contact tracing will be expanded while nonessential business restrictions may be adjusted gradually.
