USC names Alabama's Sorensen president
Andrew Sorensen was named the 27th president of the University of South Carolina, set to start July 1. The 63 year old former University of Alabama president brings public health and ethics degrees, history by training, and a history of leadership roles at Johns Hopkins and Florida. He succeeds retiring President John Palms as USC plans a restructuring to increase budget control and campus diversity amid state budget cuts and higher education competition.
