Protests Continue in Barnwell at AGNS Facility

About 200 of the weekend 1500 demonstrators from the Palmetto Alliance were expected to stay on at the Allied General Nuclear Services site this morning. AGNS officials said they would not rush to arrest marchers and sought restraint while protesters aimed to highlight their anti-nuclear stance. The main pending charge was trespassing with a possible $100 fine. officials indicated no plans for forceful entry or arrests at the gates.

Sailing mishap and golf coach collision in local news

Gordon Davidson dis covered trouble on a sailing trip when a helmsman fell overboard and a main sheet rope was lost. The sail blew free and the group had to dismantle the mast twice to fix it. Brookland Cayce golf coach Don Simmons was struck by a bicycle on a motel corner after a round in Aiken, but the rider stayed to check on him.

Kiwanis Tricycle Race Set For Wednesday

The Aiken Kiwanis Club hosts a 3:30 p.m. tricycle race on Laurens Street between Park and Richland Avenues. Children ages 3-12 need a sponsor. merchants, groups, and individuals can fund a rider. Proceeds support Key Club scholarships at Aiken High and St. Angela Academy. rain date is May 10.

Grocery Bill Increase Slows Down

Aiken County Budget Draft to be reviewed by council

The Aiken County Council will hear a rough draft of the 1978 79 budget at tomorrow’s 7 p m meeting in the county office complex on Richland Avenue. No figures are released yet but officials expect a large budget and plan several work sessions before a final version.
