Graniteville Company reports 1977 sales of 304.9 million and earnings of 11.9 million or 2.73 per share at the 132nd annual stockholders meeting led by president Robert Timmerman. First quarter figures show demand drop for heavyweight fabrics, with full-year results expected satisfactory. a 25 cent dividend per share was declared.
A forecast shows cooler tonight with upper 40s and clear skies. Saturday brings a high near 60 and a 10 percent rain chance. Sunday turns partly cloudy with highs around 80, then cooler highs in the upper 60s to 70s by Tuesday.
The Labor Department reports consumer prices up 0.8 percent in March driven by higher food and housing costs. Food rose 1.3 percent led by meat and eggs, while housing costs climbed 1 percent as house prices gained 0.8 percent. Purchasing power edged up 0.2 percent due to higher earnings and hours.

Aiken County has 27 residents proposed for appointment to county boards and commissions sent to Gov. James B. Edwards by the county delegation. The county council, led by Carrol H. Warner, says it has not been informed and faces funding duties as appointments shift to the county in 1980.
