State Lottery delays may slow scholarships

Lottery supporters warned delays in distributing scholarship funds after a Senate lottery subcommittee backed an amendment. It would require the lottery fund to accumulate at least 45 million dollars before disbursement, opposed by members who wanted 100 million. Rainy roads blamed for fatal wreck and multiple accidents

On a rainy Thursday in Aiken County, Clifton Leon Butler died in a head on collision with a tractor trailer on US 25 and SC 126. Alexander Ware was injured and charged with DUI. A deer encounter caused Angela Shunn to overturn on Wire Road. she was unbelted. The trooper handled at least three crashes, including two on I 20.

Three SRS Workers Exposed to Low Level Radiation

Three Savannah River Site workers received minimal radioactivity exposure during a Thursday calibration task in the F Canyon area. Westinghouse Savannah River Co spokeswoman Judy Spencer said contamination was very low with no harmful effects. two had skin contamination and one on clothing.

Harness Races Likely To Run Despite Rain Outlook

Harness fans await the third leg of Aiken's Triple Crown amid soggy conditions. USC Aiken athletic director Warrick says rain forecasts of 50 percent today and 20 percent tomorrow may not halt the 30th race. If rain persists, races could move to Sunday, though he doubts that will be needed. Race start at 1 p.m. on Banks Mill Road.
