The Commerce Department reports 1.0 percent annualized growth for Q4 2000, down from earlier estimates, as after tax corporate profits fall 43 percent for the quarter. Analysts warn the economy remains weak early this year after a 2.2 percent gain in Q3.

Strom Thurmond High School instructor Paul A. Thomas 47 of Trenton pled guilty to five counts of lewd acts on a minor under 16 and six counts of sexual assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct third degree in Edgefield County. Incidents were alleged in NJROTC classes between August 2000 and January 26, 2001.
