Council backs partial annexation amid traffic concerns
City Council discussed annexing 22 acres of the 186 acre Woodside tract after residents criticized the plan and the lack of a master plan for the full parcel. The Planning Commission supported the smaller annexation and council directed a master plan for the remainder. The council also approved land sale on Newberry Street for Morrison Knudsen’s Government Services Group HQ while retaining the building for the Aiken Community Playhouse. An ordinance on drug paraphernalia and counterfeit drugs passed unanimously, carrying penalties of up to 500 dollars or 30 days in jail.
