The Aiken Sulky Races at Aiken Mile Track on Banks Mill Road will start at 2 p.m. with gates opening at 10 a.m. Sponsored by the Aiken County Shrine Club, proceeds go to Shrine projects including Crippled Children's Home and Children's Barn Center. Admission is 4 adults, 2 children 6 11, free under 6. Advance tickets available at the Chamber Aiken Drug Woodruff Drug and Leminick Pharmacy.

Two Year Old Dies From Playground Injury
John G. Chip Coats aged 2 died from brain death after a playground accident in which his coat strings caught on a sliding board. He died at 5 17 p m at Eugene Talmadge Memorial Hospital in Augusta. No autopsy will be performed. He was the son of John and Pat Coats of Aiken.

North Augusta Chamber Backs School Secession

Driver Charged After Bus Wreck In Ridge Spring
A Saluda County school bus carrying 32 students from Aiken County Attendance Area 4 overturned on a 90 degree incline curve. The 16 year old Ridge Spring Monetta High School student driver was charged with driving too fast for conditions. One student remained hospitalized for observation with a head bump. others were treated and released.

Aikenites Retrieve 1950s Time Capsule From Chimney
A group led by Joyce Ross and Jerry Johnson excavated a 1950 time capsule from the chimney of the Frederick Ergle cabin, the oldest building in Aiken County. They found a 1950 St Patrick’s Day Ball program, a 1950 Aiken Standard and Review, pennies, poetry, and a faded letter, with hopes to dry and read the contents at the Aiken County Historical Museum.
