Cooking School A Hit At H Odell Weeks Center

About 600 people attended a Friday night session at the H Odell Weeks Center where Joyce Liefering demonstrated 12 dishes in a two hour program titled 90s Lifestyle. Sponsored by the Aiken Standard and the city, the event featured bread making tips and recipes such as homemade white bread pizza sauce California chicken and Baked Alaska Meatloaf with prizes including Kroger groceries a $50 savings bond and more.

SLED videotapes shooting of armed robbery suspect

SLED officials announced a Thursday night shooting of 37 year old Tommy Joel Lewis by four officers was captured on infrared videotape from a state helicopter. Autopsy found seven gunshot wounds. Officers and a pursuing citizen were involved.

Harness Races Pushed Back To Sunday At Aiken

The Aiken Harness Races are postponed from Saturday to Sunday at 1 p.m. due to wet track conditions. Track manager Phil Berley and USC Aiken athletic director Randy Warrick coordinated the change, with gates opening Sunday at 10 a.m. Weather permitting, racing will proceed as scheduled.

One Car Accident Kills Aiken Man

Aiken man Johnnie Williams, 39, died in a one car crash on Silver Bluff Road near Highway 125. The vehicle veered off the road, hit a tree, and rested in a creek. Williams, not wearing a seat belt, died of severe head trauma amid suspicions of alcohol use and wet weather.
