Aiken to vote final reading on 10 percent water rate hike
The Aiken City Council will conduct the final reading Monday for an ordinance boosting water and sewer rates by 10 percent. If approved, the new rate structure would take effect April 1 and add about $4.50 to the average monthly bill, helping cover a budget shortfall tied to lower than expected water usage and inflation. The plan aims to raise roughly $300,000 through year end to offset a $700,000 deficit while funding projects like water meter replacement and the Silver Bluff water treatment plant.
