In Columbia an odd alliance of environmentalists and the operators of a low level nuclear waste site criticizes Gov Hodges plan to use about 35 million of the Barnwell County landfill cleanup fund to cover a 126 million cut for colleges and universities next year. The fund exists to ensure environmental integrity and has more than 108 million available for maintenance and cleanup after the facility closes, with the landfill expected to remain open through 2040.
