Council Studies Water Problem in Crosland Park
Aikenite Kenneth Taylor returned to the Aiken City Council with a petition signed by 107 Crosland Park residents demanding a fix for rusty water. The panel heard that replacing Crosland Park water lines would cost about 1 million dollars, and discussed installing filters or using ditches for new lines this summer. The meeting also saw zoning board appointments, street signage, and tree replacement plans for Laurens Street area.

Some County Roads To Get Work In Aiken County
Thirty eight roads and bridges statewide approved for construction and resurfacing contracts totaling nearly 10.2 million dollars. In Aiken County the Department of Highways approved grading drainage and asphalt surfacing on 0.9 mile of SC 302 and 19, with concrete curb and gutter and a guard rail to be erected. The Satterfield Construction Co. Inc. of Greenwood won the contract worth 202,073 dollars.

Aiken Rotary hears money in horses and Hanoverians
John Ellis told the Aiken Rotary Club that the local horse industry is lucrative with about 50 Thoroughbreds in training at present. He noted 450 Thoroughbreds trained at the Aiken Training Track this year and said Hanoverians and other horses boost area wealth, mentioning residents who retired to raise horses and the Fulmer International School of Equitation. The club meets at the Ramada Inn and Ron Wheeler is president.
