Woman Dies After High Speed One-Car Wreck in North Augusta

Vicky Prescott, 43, of 1400 Waccamaw North Augusta died at 12:34 pm after a one car crash at Carolina Avenue and Martintown Road. Her 15 year old son was hospitalized at MCG Hospital, recovering. The burgundy 1995 Pontiac Bonneville flew airborne, flipped, and crashed into radio station LITE 96 lot and sign, ejecting both occupants. Debris littered the scene as NADPS officers continued the investigation with the coroner's office.

Three local county offices see Republican and Democratic bids

Steeplechase set for Saturday in Aiken

The Aiken Steeplechase returns for the second weekend of Triple Crown 2000 at Ford Conger Field. Gates open 9 30 a m with post time at 1 p m. The event, sanctioned by the National Steeplechase Association, is sponsored by the Aiken Steeplechase Association and the Aiken Sertoma Club. Over 30 000 attended last year as pre race sales surpass year s figure. Competition features stamina and jumps as riders race long distances. The purse runs about 80000. Traffic and parking updates discussed by organizers ahead of the day.
