Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development debated FY2017 funding to end MOX at Savannah River Site. Lt. Gen. Frank Klotz endorsed dilute and dispose, arguing lower cost and risks, while Sen. Lindsey Graham criticized the plan as disruptive and questioned the building's fate. The administration aims to move toward disposal at a federal repository with 13 metric tons in South Carolina and 21 metric tons elsewhere, awaiting legal cover and final decision by mid-April.
