Budget shifts Education Improvement Act away from roads
Aiken County School Board member Keith Liner reported that the South Carolina House deleted a plan to divert 37.6 million from the Education Improvement Act to fund road repairs. The current House budget would send 38 million to the EIA, boosting the base student cost to 2400 while still under the required 2984. Additional appropriations cover retirement contributions, charter school growth, and grants, with a 95 million loan proposed for 1140 school buses. The road repair bill remains under consideration by the Ways and Means Committee as the Senate weighs its version.
