Syracuse survives first round upset scare in NCAA tournament

James Southerland led Syracuse with 15 points and eight rebounds as the No. 1 seed rallied past UNC Asheville 72 65 in the East Regional. Fab Melo was ruled ineligible, but Syracuse advances to face Kansas State in the third round.

Aiken HS Girls Soccer top Barnwell 6 1 in win

Aiken High School girls soccer improved to 3-1 after a 6 1 victory over Barnwell. Nikki DeMass led with two goals and two assists, Kelsee Sapp added two goals, with Katie Maivelett and Sarah Elizabeth Davis also scoring. Dara Timmerman posted seven saves. Barnwell’s lone goal came from Samantha Sanders. The Hornets host Wade Hampton next.
