Buckland Horses Put On Show At Aiken Trials

Buckland Farm trainer Ross R Pearce led four winners in the 40th Aiken Trials with Key to the Sea clinching the City of Aiken Cup in a two length victory. Jockey Jeff Runco rode all Buckland winners including Torsion and Flying Wit as 16,000 spectators watched Thomas Mellon Evans and Betty honored for the appearance at the Aiken Training Track.

Survivors Reflect On Narrow Escape After Interstate 20 Crash

North Augusta residents Tim Hyatt and Steve Epley describe their luck after a freight truck collided with a slow car on a foggy Interstate 20 bridge at the South Carolina Georgia line. The crash sparked a 10 car pileup and explosions. a Dover, Delaware couple, Air Force Sgt. Rubin Chaffino and his wife Juana, died. Their daughter Jolene, 27, was found at a pickup and is with Helping Hands Inc. the couple’s 4-year-old son is listed as satisfactory in Doctors Hospital. Gerald Jess Howell, 33, of Dallas Ga., faces $10,000 bond in the Aiken County case.
