Vice President Gerald R. Ford stated in a televised interview that he understands the Arab oil embargo against the United States has been lifted and that an official announcement is expected shortly.
A twin engine chartered airliner carrying a television film crew crashed into a mountainside in the eastern Sierra near Bishop California. Officials said all 36 aboard were killed and a helicopter crew found a burning wreckage six miles east of Bishop.
Mayor Joseph Alioto announced substantial progress ending an eight day city employee strike that halted public transportation. Negotiators reached agreement on the total size of a new wage package and the money gap was closed after late negotiations.
Rep. Robert W. Kastenmeier says three days of hearings reveal grave differences over Vietnam war deserters and draft evaders. He doubts any amnesty will be enacted this year and warns the panel is not close to a resolution.
Esso Argentina says it paid a world record ransom of 14.2 million dollars to the ERP for the release of American refinery manager Victor Samuelson. The government backed claim notes the payment followed by an ERP final demand and newspaper advertisements in Argentina.
Actor Ryan O Neal and Leigh Taylor Young divorce after irreconcilable differences. Miss Taylor Young, 29, filed for divorce in California. O Neal, 32, starred in Love Story and other films. Separately Sonny and Cher canceled a Lake Tahoe engagement due to marital problems. Mia Farrow gave birth to her third son in London with conductor Andre Previn. the Previns already have twins and a Vietnamese orphan daughter.
George A. Roof of the Savannah River Community Pre-Release Center discusses reintegration terminology with members of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church. Also notes the Aiken Choral Society rehearsing for a concert next Sunday and a group from the Comprehensive Health Planning Council reviewing a hospital letter of intent.

Farmers keep watch as temperatures drop with 34 degrees reported at Bush Field by the weather bureau. Aiken County Agent Bill Beasley says the night passed without crop damage though more frost could come. Clemson horticulturist W S Jordan notes small buds may survive while late cold could harm trees in full bloom.
President Nixon accepts the resignation of Treasury Secretary George P Schultz with a sense of personal regret. Schultz is the last remaining original Nixon cabinet member still in federal office and his departure ends a long service record.
