Damian Curry, 28, of Ridgecrest Road in Aiken, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for a 2009 armed robbery after admitting to bribing his victim to skip trial. He offered money to the victim and his wife via jail calls, leading to an 85 percent minimum term. Crystal Hutto Rutland, 46, of Beech Island, got 12 years for four counts of enhanced shoplifting and one grand larceny, part of a nine‑conviction shoplifting history.
Judge Dover A Early imposed the maximum on Rutland for a third offense enhanced shoplifting charge and ordered the 10 year sentence to run before the two year term as she admitted thefts from Aug 31, 2009 to Jan 15, 2010 while on parole. Casey Busbee 22 Warrenville admitted aiding two 12 year olds in stealing and was fined 100 dollars or 45 days in jail after admitting to concealing security cards and taking over 500 dollars in goods.
Karen Tempel and her daughter host Chocolate for a Cause on March 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. at 413 Hayne Ave Aiken inviting $50 donations to fund leukemia research. Five chocolate recipes will be prepared and samples plus a silent auction await attendees with proceeds going to Team in Training and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
