A 40 year old man, Troy Edward Goffe, on trial for first degree burglary and possession of criminal tools, tried to fire his attorney in court as witnesses were called. The case stems from a Highland Park Avenue break in in August 2007 when a 16 year old boy saw a man matching Goffe flee after apologizing. Goffe faced 15 years to life if convicted and later asked to be severed from his counsel.
Rebecca Freeman wore the Cat in the Hat costume for Read Across America at J D Lever Elementary School. She has led Cat visits for nine years with Ingrid Kupprat arranging the appearances. Freeman, new to teaching, previously worked in sales and marketing and enjoys mentoring children.

An Associated Press probe found many U S cities test for pharmaceuticals in drinking water while Aiken South Carolina does not. City officials cite wells and springs supplying most water and state rules not requiring drug testing. The 2006 report showed compliance with federal and state standards.
