A 26 year old motorcyclist, Jerry Lee Kemp of North Augusta, died after a head on collision with a 2003 Cadillac on Fairview Drive Belvedere. Kemp died after being loaded to the Medical College of Georgia following CPR attempts by a passerby and Aiken EMS. The Cadillac driver Nancy Griffin was hospitalized and later released. The fatality is the seventh in Aiken County this year as investigators continue to probe the circumstances, including possible pedestrian involvement and a supposed lookout.
Avondale Mills seeks 420 million dollars from Norfolk Southern accusing negligence in the Jan 6 2005 Graniteville train wreck that released chlorine killing nine and injuring 250. The closure of the Avondale canvas plant followed eight days of safety lockdown and escalating cleanup costs.
Denise Boudrot Hopkins, a former jockey with 3,216 mounts and 402 wins, now trains trick horses and will team with Cleve Kadiddlehopper for the Aiken Trials after the third race. Hopkins rode primarily at Suffolk Downs and Rockingham Park, winning the Governor's Handicap on Triple Crown Schedule Aiken Trials.
