In Santee California on Saturday more than 700 mourners gathered for Randy Gordon a 17 year old Santana High School senior killed in the latest deadly school shooting near San Diego. The service followed a Friday night community memorial that drew over 3 000 people while supporters wore purple and gold in tribute to the Santana Sultans.
Local death notices announce Kathryn H. Burgess and Katie L B Key among others. Bernard Pressley Beulah G Sheppard Nathaniel Stetson Charity Stroman are listed with funeral details forthcoming.
Three local government executives, L C Greene, Robert A Rojas, and Joseph K Durham, were chosen as finalists for Aiken County administrator after a 70 applicant field. Greene, former county CEO, now Lexington city manager, has prior interim stints in Aiken. Rojas heads Moultrie Georgia city government and Durham leads Edgecombe County.
The 30th annual Triple Crown in Aiken features three racing formats over consecutive weekends. The first leg, the Aiken Trials on March 17, offers six races for 2 and 3-year-old thoroughbreds at the Aiken Training Track off Two Notch Road with gates at 10:30 a.m. and races at 2 p.m. General admission is $8 in advance, $10 at the gate. parking is $5 in advance, $10 at the gate. A drill on U S 78 near the Aiken Barnwell border staged a crash between a bus and a truck carrying radioactive material. Thirteen agencies tested joint response, with auditors recording actions as responders battled flames and simulated casualties.
