Democrats Push Higher Spending To Combat Recession
Democrats on the House Economic Committee urge a $412 to $418 billion fiscal 1977 outlay, challenging Ford’s $394 billion proposal. They seek $16 to $24 billion more, plus one million emergency jobs and a voluntary wage price restraint program. They argue higher spending will boost tax revenues and cut unemployment benefits and food stamps.
