South Carolina tax preparer accused of $13 million fraud
Federal prosecutors sue Winston Able of Blythewood for fabricating withholding data on at least 200 returns and filing more than 13 million in fraudulent refunds. The government seeks an injunction to bar further filings as Able ran Reclaim Services and promoted a “redemption” scheme at seminars in Columbia. Clients paid 400 to 800 dollars for tax filings and faced penalties including 5,000 dollars and potential 20 percent penalties.
