Setback for Higher Ed Panel Over Two Year Programs
Columbia AP Joseph O Rogers Jr tells the state Commission on Higher Education that eight or nine institutions support the panel while two have more votes. The House Education Committee overturned the commission by 114 to end USC and Clemson two year programs. Fred Sheheen calls it a serious setback though the commission vows to continue eliminating duplications.

USC General Studies program survives after committee vote
Rep. Joseph Anderson sided with the University of South Carolina as the House Education and Public Works Committee voted 11 to 6 to overrule the Higher Education Commission. The panel said two year programs such as secretarial science and hotel management would continue as a package vote blocked individual consideration. Anderson cited cost and duplication concerns but supported USC arguing the programs were needed and cost effective.
