Atlanta Braves manager Lyman Harris dismisses 6-1 odds and predicts a top hitting club. He cites the talent of Hank Aaron Orlando Cepeda and Rico Carty as a core for success and notes the division has five strong teams.
Aaron, likely the league's highest paid with a three year $200000 per year contract, starts his 19th season 75 homers behind Babe Ruth's 714. Knee injuries limited him last year despite a career high 47 homers. Carty missed 1971 after a leg break. Cepeda had knee surgery after 71 games. Braves study Carty and Cepeda in spring drills at West Palm Beach before 1972 offers.
