Miracle video captures cheerful final minutes aboard Columbia

NASA TV aired the only surviving shuttle video showing the crew in routine but buoyant moments during the 16 day mission. Pilot William McCool and Commander Rick Husband trade awe at atmospheric views while Laurel Clark grins into the camera. The tape omits Michael Anderson, David Brown, and Ian Ramon who were below deck.

NASA chief rejects bid to reassign top officials after Columbia disaster

NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe refused a formal request from the Columbia accident board to reassign agency leaders involved in the probe. He pledged a new externally led task force to cooperate with the board, saying reassignments would prejudice findings and that he would not submit anyone to such treatment. The board, chaired by Admiral Harold Gehman, confirmed the exchange on its site, noting the inquiry remains focused on the 2003 shuttle tragedy over the Southwest.
