TVA upgrades Douglas Dam to boost cheap hydro power
The Douglas Dam upgrade as part of TVA's 780 million modernization aims to add 44 megawatts to its 164 megawatt output, extend station life by decades, and reduce operators from 290 to about 190 across 29 hydro sites. The project, started in 1992, will lift TVA’s hydro capacity by 750 megawatts systemwide, while automating systems to improve efficiency and reliability.
