FBI searches Pine Ridge Reservation for 16 suspects in the shooting deaths of agents Ronald Williams and Jack Coler. Spokesman Thomas Coll said there is a strong indication of who they are, with more than 150 agents involved in the hunt across the rugged terrain.
CIA Director William E. Colby opposes Rockefeller Commission calls to publicize part of the agency's secret multi million dollar budget. He argued that even revealing the overall spending total could force disclosure of sensitive secret details.
Rochester AP reports writer producer Rod Serling creator of the Twilight Zone and Night Gallery died Saturday at age 50. Serling’s plays Patterns and Requiem for a Heavyweight were adapted into films and received critical acclaim.
New York AR reports the death of the 112th Scum makes last Tuesday's Eastern Airlines 727 crash near Kennedy International Airport the worst single plane disaster in U S history. The prior record was 111 killed in a 1971 Alaska Airlines 727 crash near Juneau.
Sherbrooke Quebec police rescued 63 year old Lina Blanchet wife of a wealthy margarine maker from a farmhouse where two men held her for five days. The suspects demanded one million dollars in twenty dollar bills. Blanchet was described as weakened but resting and expected to recover within a week.
Schubert and Salzer Machinery Works of Ingolstadt will construct a 100000 square foot textile machinery plant on a 30 acre site three miles southeast of North Augusta. The project, announced by the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce, may employ 250 workers initially and up to 800 later. The county plans a $30000 land purchase subsidy with $1000 per acre. Gov. Edwards notes strong West German investment in South Carolina.
North Augusta council plans the third reading on petitions to rezone lots in block 124 from office commercial to heavy commercial. A West Avenue rezoning petition and an ordinance to permit churches in residential zones are also on the agenda along with staff reports and proposed city rules.
Aiken County Commission will read a resolution to sue over the Ai ken County Hospital and Hospital Corporation of America management contract at its meeting in USC Aiken room 107 at 7 p m. The contract aims for an August start with HCA keeping 75 percent of savings and the hospital 25 percent.

Offices for the clerk, finance, roads and bridges, paramedical services, civil defense, voter registration, coroner, grants, county engineer and administrator move in. The move ends five years of debate after the Post Office Department announced bids for a new building in 1970.
